WHAT
CAUSES HEADACHES?
The most common
causes are physical trauma, emotional stress, nutritional
deficiencies or chemical toxins. Sometimes there may be a
combination of these and other factors. Our examination process
helps identify the most likely cause.
How long will
it take?
Some patients enjoy
results quickly. Others notice a slow decline in their symptoms
after several weeks or longer of chiropractic care. It's impossible
to predict. If you've had chronic headaches for many years,
improvement can take time.
What if I
don't have a headache when I come in?
Chiropractic isn't
an aspirin! Repeated visits, even when you're feeling better,
can help retrain and strengthen the muscles that support your
spine. Just as it takes more than one or two workouts at the
gym to get in shape, it takes time for your spine to heal.
Chiropractic
& Headaches
"...randomize
trials have also indicated that manipulative treatment is
beneficial for headache, including migraine."
-Andrew
Vickers, M.D. (October 30, 1999)
A
short course of chiropractic care decreases tension headaches
by 50%.
Following
4 weeks of treatment for sufferers of frequent tension
headaches (up to 15 headaches a month), chiropractic patients
suffered nearly 50% fewer headaches and decreased their
need for medication by almost half.
-Journal
of the American Medical Association (November 11, 1998)
"Spinal
manipulation has a significant positive effect in cases of
cervicogenic headache."
-Niels
Nilsson, M.D. (June 1997)
A
significant percentage of chiropractic patients report "a
greater than 90% reduction of their migraines..."
Overall,
nearly 75% of migraine patients who undergo chiropractic
manipulation will note "significant improvement"
in their symptoms.
-Journal
of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics (February
2000)
Medical
doctors know that spinal manipulation works for patients with
headaches.
"Considerable
improvements of range of motion and reduction of pain
may be accomplished through the application of manual
medicine..."
Lawrence
Horn, M.D. (May 1998)
Chiropractic
manipulation results in lasting improvement.
Although
chronic tension headache sufferers undergoing chiropractic
care or taking medication had similar improvements during
treatment, only the chiropractic patients maintained their
improvement once treatment has ended.

of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics (October
1995)
