MID
BACK PAIN
What is back pain?
Back pain results from major weight bearing joints pushed
out of alignment causing pain caused by years of back abuse,
such as poor posture, improper lifting and lack of body conditioning.
Muscle imbalance, disc protrusion, arthritis, sprain/strain,
pinched nerves and many other reasons can cause it.
What can a chiropractor do? To help find the cause of your
pain and stiffness, you and your chiropractor discuss your
symptoms, any prior injuries, your health history, and your
lifestyle, including work and leisure activities. Physical,
orthopedic and neurological tests can help reveal the condition
of a joint. Static motion palpation tests check for tenderness,
pain, swelling and restricted range of motion. If needed,
other tests, such as x-rays may be done to show detailed images
of muscles, ligaments and other soft tissue. Accurate diagnosis
requires a medical history and examination along with a course
of treatment.
Your chiropractor
gently touches and moves your spine to locate muscle spasms
and pain, and to see how well each vertebra moves. He then
can correct the mechanical problems in the spine, thus relieving
your pain. Chiropractors can counter the effect of stress
and unnatural wear and tear by reducing spinal nerve stress
and restoring proper movement to the spinal column. Your doctor
of chiropractic is specially skilled in the techniques of
spinal adjustments and knowledgeable in the prevention of
low back problems. They find the exact cause and are very
effective in treating the underlining reason. Chiropractic
adjustments can restore joint mobility and function as well
as relieve pressure on pain sensitive structures and nerves.
They find and treat
the cause and don’t just treat the symptom. Medication
such as Motrin, or Aleve can actually worsen the condition
and speed up arthritis. Chiropractic care will prevent arthritis,
or unnecessary surgery. Chiropractic stresses the importance
of overall body wellness in maintaining a healthy back. In
addition to spinal adjustments, your treatment program will
include instruction in good back habits (back hygiene), diet,
exercise, and body conditioning. All this can make your back
feel wonderful and strong again.
