TENDONITIS
What is tendonitis?
A tendon is a fibrous cord that attaches muscle to bone. Tendonitis
means inflammation of a tendon. The same basic principles
indicated in reference to bursitis are present in tendonitis.
The only major differences are the tissue involved, the sliding
activity of the tendon, and the locations within the body.
Like bursitis, the same thorough evaluation for the cause
of tendonitis is very important in eliminating the condition
rather than just overriding its symptoms. It is often caused
by irregular joint mobility, arthritis, injury, or muscle
imbalance.
To help find the cause
of your pain and stiffness, you and your chiropractor discuss
your symptoms, any prior injuries, your health history, and
your lifestyle, including work and leisure activities. Physical,
orthopedic tests can help reveal the condition of a joint.
Static motion palpation tests check for tenderness, pain,
swelling and restricted range of motion. If needed, other
tests, such as x-rays may be done to show detailed images
of muscles, ligaments and other soft tissue. Accurate diagnosis
requires a medical history and examination along with a course
of treatment. Chiropractor will run orthopedic tests to determine
the cause of the tendonitis and will treat that cause rather
than masking the symptoms with drugs. Chiropractors will treat
with gentle joint mobilization, modalities such as Muscle
Stimulation or Ultrasound and Exercise to make your tendon
feel terrific and strong again.
